Transfer Applicants

If you’ve completed high school or equivalent and earned over 12 college credits, apply as an external transfer student. We welcome applicants from U.S. and international institutions. Current Cornell students should consult Engineering Advising for internal transfers.

What You Need to Know as an External Transfer Applicant

  • Fall Entry Only

    We only accept external transfer applications for students planning to start in the fall.

  • Application Deadline

    March 15

  • Financial Aid Application Deadline

    March 15

  • Technical Exam Requirements

    Taking the SAT or ACT is not required. If you have previously taken the SAT or ACT, it is recommended that you have an official score report sent to Cornell by the testing agency. It is not necessary to take the SAT or ACT if you have not previously done so.

  • English Language Exam

    English proficiency can be demonstrated by one of the following methods:

    • You are a U.S. Citizen/Permanent Resident.
    • English is your native language.
    • English has been the primary language of instruction for the past four years.

    Applicants who do not meet one of these criteria are required to submit an English proficiency exam score from the TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test.

How to Apply

We accept the Common Application including its College Report and Mid-Term Report. Transfer applicants that are offered admission must submit the major-specific course description form upon submission of the Enrollment Response Form.
