Preceptorship

The M.Eng. preceptorship (BME 5100) pairs select students with experienced healthcare professionals (preceptors) at Guthrie Hospital in Sayre, PA for a short-term, hands-on experience in a clinical setting. You attend pre-hospital orientation, and engage with clinicians weekly. Preceptors share their expertise, provide weekly assignments, and guide you in observing and participating in the clinical setting. Engineering faculty instruct you in clinical environment norms and etiquette and review and assist in your experiences as the preceptorship progresses.

Preceptors value your findings and ideas, which can become M.Eng. design projects. You will also observe the routine practice of a clinician, identify potential needs, and, through a formal process, evaluate the merits and provide ideas on how to address these perceived needs. You will present your work in a final report and presentation.
