The Smith School’s Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Industry Council (CBEIC) continues to foster strong relationships between the school and our corporate partners and has garnered enthusiastic feedback from both students and participating companies.
CBEIC grew this past year, adding Stroud International and Chartwell Consulting as members, bringing the total to nine partner companies. These partnerships play a vital role in enhancing the educational experience of undergraduate chemical engineering students. Through CBEIC, students gain invaluable exposure to the practical application of theoretical concepts, leading to better-prepared graduates entering the workforce.
For its partners, CBEIC membership offers several advantages:
- Early talent access: Companies gain access to a conduit of top talent by engaging with students as early as their sophomore year, influencing course content and delivery and aiding faculty in bringing contemporary problems into the classroom.
- Project engagement: Partners have the opportunity to collaborate with students on senior design projects, master’s research, or even summer internships, providing valuable real-world problem-solving experiences.
- Research alignment: The council fosters connections between companies and Smith School research labs, leading to mutually beneficial collaborations and access to our top graduate students.
- Brand exposure: Partners gain increased visibility within the Smith School, fostering brand recognition among talented students and faculty.
The past year CBEIC members engaged in undergraduate courses, sponsored senior design projects, and participated in a well-attended professional development and career planning event with over 75 students. Moving forward, increasing the number of companies participating in CBEIC is a strategic goal for the school to strengthen the connection between theoretical knowledge and practical application and ensuring graduates are well-equipped for successful careers.
