Through our the Engineering Communications Program’s Alumni Engagement Project, which launched in 2020, alumni volunteers participate in informational interviews with students in the program’s core courses. Students select alumni to interview based on their undergraduate major or professional career. After interviewing the alum, students give presentations and write reports focusing on what they learned about communication and collaboration.
“I realized how easy it is for engineers to get caught up in their own technical world, whether it be trying to debug a software program or solve a complicated heuristic. Yet even something as simple as talking through a problem with another person can open up so many doors, and ultimately create a much more collaborative and efficient work environment.”
Jaye Ren ’20, M.Eng. ’20 Student
To date, hundreds of students have conducted hundreds of interviews, creating relationships with alumni and investigating for themselves why communication and collaboration skills are so integral to engineering work and those with engineering degrees. Both students and alumni have responded to this program with positive feedback. Still growing and evolving, the project boasts multiple alumni volunteers who enthusiastically come back year after year, lending their expertise to students.
The Engineering Communications Program enthusiastically extends our warmest and most sincere thanks to the following alumni for volunteering and contributing their expertise to this project!
