Semiconductor and Quantum Materials Pathways

For students interested in becoming leaders in the semiconductors manufacturing field, a new Semiconductor and Quantum Materials pathway degree has been developed by Cornell Materials Science and Engineering. This is a focused degree program within the existing Master of Science (M.S.) and Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) programs.

The United States has identified semiconductor manufacturing as a key enabler for economic growth, and as a strategic priority in the coming decades. This renewed emphasis has created a huge demand for leaders trained specifically for these industries. Over the next decade, it is projected that 30,000 new hires will be needed, with nearly 30% with materials expertise. The challenges of maintaining the pace of innovation that has enabled smart phones, Cloud, and AI is incredible with exciting research and development opportunities.

Degree Requirements

To earn their degree, students complete core materials courses as well as selected pre-approved electives, such as Nanofabrication, Quantum Computing Materials, and Advanced Characterization.

    The M.Eng. Program

    Our M.Eng. program is typically completed in two semesters and provides students with a professional degree that can be leveraged to increase their professional opportunities and growth. In addition to technical expertise, the M.Eng. program equips engineers with targeted professional and leadership skills to accelerate success in the manufacturing, commercial, and managerial sectors.
