Engineering Summer Math Institute

Our Engineering Summer Math Institute is a comprehensive, nine-week summer program where participants enroll in a designated summer math class. Participants in the Engineering Summer Math Institute enroll in MATH 1920, 2930, or 2940 and participate in an applied math project under the guidance of the program’s math instructor. Throughout the summer, students also participate in peer-facilitated collaborative learning workshops to support their coursework. At the end of the institute, all participants present their work at the Office of Inclusive Excellence’s Summer Research Symposium.

Learning Strategies Center (LSC) Scholarship

The Cornell University LSC Scholarship enables current full-time undergraduate students to graduate on schedule by providing financial support to attend Summer or Winter Session at Cornell. LSC Scholarships are for Cornell courses only and cover the cost of tuition.

  • Eligibility

Although many students wish to attend Summer or Winter Session, limited funding restricts awarding of scholarships to eligible applicants who receive Cornell grant aid and demonstrate both an academic and financial need. The LSC Scholarship is not granted for academic acceleration.

Priority for scholarships is given in the following order:

    • Seniors who need to fulfill requirements for graduation.
Upper-class students who did not successfully complete a core course.
    • Students who need Summer or Winter Session credits to place them on schedule for graduation.
    • Students who need a course to fulfill requirements for getting into a major.
    • Students who have been encouraged to moderate their course load by an advisor due to extenuating circumstances.
    • Supporting students’ participation in a broad range of academic enrichment opportunities provided by Cornell.
  • Nomination Process

To be considered for the scholarship, students must be nominated by their college’s designated nominator. The LSC does not accept applications or nominations through any other means. Nominations for Winter sessions should be typically be made in October, and nominations for Summer should typically be made in March.

    • Unaffiliated students meet with staff from the Engineering Advising Office.
    • Affiliated students meet with your department’s Undergraduate Coordinator.
    • After meeting with the nominator, an Office of Inclusive Excellence representative will reach out if any follow-up is required.
