Project Teams Academic Framework

There are three courses that comprise the Student Project Teams (SPT) academic framework:

ENGRG 1400: Project Team Onboarding

Students who are joining an Engineering Project Team for the first time will be introduced to the program and to information and skills needed for success as a project team member.  Topics will include a broad orientation to the Engineering Project Teams, safety, communication, giving and accepting feedback, and expectations for culture and behavior.  This course is required of all new Project Team members during the first semester that they are on a team.  

  • One course/one section
  • 1 cr, S/U
  • Offered 3 times per year: fall 7WK2 (for upperclass students who join a team in the fall), spring 7WK1 (for first-year students who join a team in the late fall), spring 7WK2 (for all students who join a team in the spring)
  • Instructors: SPT Leadership
  • Prerequisites: N/A
  • Course is online and asynchronous.
  • Course may only be taken once.

ENGRG 3400: Engineering Student Project Teams

Intended for continuing student members of Engineering Student Project Teams.  Project Team students work in an applied setting that fosters knowledge transfer from the classroom to practice and development of professional skills necessary to work in multidisciplinary teams. Students will regularly attend team meetings as well as work on their own. An individual final deliverable on the project is required of each student. 

  • One course/multiple sections (one section/team)
  • 1-3 cr, S/U
  • Offered fall and spring.
  • Instructors: Team Faculty Advisors
  • Prerequisites: ENGRG 1400
  • Students may not enroll in multiple sections of this course.
  • Course may be repeated, up to 18 credits, consistent with university policies. Student learning outcomes must represent a progression of research and scholarship and not be a repetition of the same material.

ENGRG 4400: Project Team Leadership

Intended for Engineering Student Project team leads, sub-team leads, and experienced content experts with mentorship roles. This skills-based, experiential learning course will use students’ project team experiences as a vehicle to learn about, practice, and refine critical leadership skills. Students will have access to one-on-one and small group coaching throughout their enrollment in the course. Students must enroll in 1-3 credits of ENGRG 3400 concurrently.   

  • One course/two sections
  • 1 cr, S/U
  • Offered twice per year: fall 7WK2, spring 7WK1
  • Instructors: ELP + SPT Leadership
  • Prerequisites: ENGRG 1400 and at least two semesters of ENGRG 3400.
  • Students must enroll in 1-3 credits of ENGRG 3400 concurrently.
  • Course may only be taken once.
