Why Systems Engineering?

Systems engineering is an interdisciplinary field that provides students with the knowledge and skills to design and implement successful systems. It focuses on defining customer needs and required functionality early in the development cycle, documenting requirements, then proceeding with design synthesis and system validation while considering the complete life-cycle problem. Systems engineering integrates all the disciplines and specialty groups into a team effort, forming a structured development process that proceeds from concept to production to operation. Systems engineering considers both the business and the technical needs of all customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the user’s needs.

Why Cornell?

  • Cornell offers a rigorous and highly regarded distance-learning (online) M.Eng. degree in systems engineering that will give your students the skills they need to advance your company’s performance.

  • Your employees can earn their M.Eng. with minimal time away from work.

  • Cornell’s distance-learning students earn the same degree and engage in the same courses as on-campus students.

  • Students can earn Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification by taking one course while completing their degree.

  • Two week-long, on-campus, summer immersion courses enable your employees to meet students in their cohort from companies such as Lockheed Martin, Boeing, BAE Systems, Cisco, and others.

  • The 6-credit project requirement, course projects, and group work within courses naturally encourages interaction and networking with on-campus M.Eng, students as well as other distance-learning students.

  • Because all Cornell distance-learning students are full-time working professionals, they are able to build their professional networks while working on their degree.

  • Your employees can complete their degree at a pace that works for them.

Curriculum

  • The degree requires 30 credits of instruction and consists of core and elective courses, as well as a 6-credit project.
  • Two one-week, on-campus modules provide the opportunity to have face-to-face contact with other industry professionals and meet the professors, and allows students to complete a significant design challenge all while simultaneously attending the systems leadership laboratory.
  • Visit our M.Eng. distance-learning degree requirement page for more details.

Benefits to Corporate Partners

  • There is no cost to the corporate partner to set up a partnership. It is simply a commitment to promote and encourage employees to further their education and to reach their educational goals. The Systems Engineering program will provide degree information and materials that you may share with your interested employees.
  • No minimum number of employees need to enroll.
  • Becoming a partner does not limit the employees to enroll with Systems Engineering only. It simply means that if any employee chooses to enroll in our program, they will receive the benefits included in the partnership agreement.
