Assistant professor, Applied and Engineering Physics
Academic focus: My academic focus on the intersection of quantum devices and quantum materials. Specifically, we aim take materials with novel properties and stitch them into quantum coherent microwave circuits.
Research summary: The Fatemi Lab will focus on developing new ideas in superconducting nanodevices, particularly at their intersection with quantum information sciences. We aim to expand the suite of materials and device architectures available to superconducting quantum information platforms through basic science discovery and proof-of-principle device development.
What inspired you to pursue a career in this field? The intersection of device physics and materials physics is an exciting place where the synthesis of two fields can lead to new ideas and outsized impact.
What are you most looking forward to as a Cornell Engineering faculty member? I'm excited to join the Cornell Engineering community in particular because of its collaborative culture. School-wide there is a deep bench of colleagues who are world leaders in nanodevices, quantum physics, and materials physics. I hope to fruitfully hybridize their various expertise in my research program.
What do you like to do when you’re not working? I enjoy walking, running, and squash.
